Paul Berthelot: Blue Jackets suspend Gregory Campbell
Blue Jackets suspend Gregory Campbell for failing to report to the AHL.

It's unfortunate but every time the CBJ have a stable bottom 6 forward who brings in some points and energy , he gets disregarded come FA time , I would of easily kept guys like Skille, Mckenzie or Comeau, instead management takes chances on damaged products such as Campbell , or keep guys like Boll who can only throw punches....

Same can be saId when they replaced Manny Malhotra for Samy I cant skate Paulsson.

Why wouldnt they just mutually agree to terminate his contract?

I mean he doesnt get paid by CBJ when they suspend him right?

Might as well just cut ties get him off the books and let him go elsewhere

Supposedly his salary is already off the cap because he is suspended. According to what I read in the Columbus Dispatch he's doing this for the right reasons; not to take a spot form a younger player and understanding the CBJ do not want him anymore, s he wants to move on. I hope they can find a deal for him.

I get that, but why not just terminate the contract and make him a UFA and allow him to sign elsewhere?

During the suspension CBJ doesnt pay him and he doesnt get paid, so why retain his rights via suspension? Just agree to terminate the deal and go their separate ways

Once can only assume they still see him as an asset that someone might trade for, so you keep around a while. Or if someone gets hurt in Columbus they bring him back on the team. If neither happens they will eventually release him, unless his salary still counts against the cap if they do it.

Basically the getting something over nothing argument. Like the Horton trade.
